What the filter does
The point is not to find more listings. It is to waste less time.
Each pick has a named funder, a current official page, a real deadline and a plausible AI or advanced-digital route. Eligibility still needs checking against your organisation and project.
Open UK opportunities with verifiable funding or contract value, concrete eligibility and a direct source.
Likely fit, obvious friction, funding intensity, consortium requirements and buyer-specific risks.
Expired notices, vague networking, pay-to-apply schemes, crypto, gated documents and “AI” mentioned only in bid-writing rules.

Advanced Connectivity Technologies: New Innovators

Micro and small UK businesses can receive 100% of eligible project costs. AI-driven network fault detection, response and adaptive reconfiguration are explicitly in scope.
Only genuinely novel connectivity technology qualifies. Previously Innovate-UK-funded businesses are excluded, and the official success estimate is 15%.

Phase-one R&D contracts support tangible tools, platforms and service models for earlier, fairer identification or strengths-and-needs assessment. Organisations of any size may lead.
This is not a quick classifier project. It needs credible validity, adoption, safeguarding, co-design and a route to use across education settings. Most delivery must be by the lead.

UK SMEs building commercial digital platforms for games, advertising, film, TV, music or the arts may claim up to 70% of eligible industrial-research costs.
Ordinary content, courses, information sites and internal workflow tools are explicitly out. Projects must be beyond proof of concept; the official success estimate is 10%.

AI chips, accelerators, photonic interconnects, sensing and sustainable AI-compute hardware are specifically named within the semiconductor scope.
Software-only AI is not the target. A genuine Swiss implementation partner and normally a research institute are required; both national funders must independently select the project.

UKRI future opportunities
UKRI says the call is intended to support technologies and tools that underpin more sustainable future AI systems, with a proposed maximum award of £500,000.
It is not yet open and remains subject to approval. Eligibility, scope and the actual deadline have not been published, so there is nothing responsible to apply for yet.
A deliberate omission
£600,000 can still be a bad lead.
The open STFC Proof of Concept page has an attractive headline and an August deadline, but applications are invitation-only and must come through an eligible research organisation. It is not a general SME opportunity, so it does not belong in the five.
The filter in one sentence
If a capable reader cannot tell, within two minutes, whether an opportunity is plausibly theirs, the digest has not done its job.
